Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Mastheads

On my student magazine there’s a student mag banner and an LSC logo this confuses my audience as it seems my magazine has two different mastheads which makes it unclear. However on my other magazine I’ve worked on this and have made a clear distinct masthead.  On my hip hop magazine I’ve improved the use of colours which relates to my target audience where as on my student mag I just colours that went well together and didn’t think about the audience.

Photography

During the course of my prelim task I used I simple digital camera and took pictures based on the criteria. But when doing the main task we were allowed to go far and beyond, we were also given a camera used in the professional industry of photography so I used my case studies and other magazines as examples to take my pictures for my magazine. The Main image of my student mag is very low quality and basically has no purpose, there is no eye contact with the reader and a weak posture within the modal however with my hip hop magazine there eye contact which establishes a relationship with the audience, clothing which appeals to the audience, make up and hair done and lastly the posture of the models is correct.

Colour scheme

Regarding the colour scheme I look at magazines related to hip hop and all magazines involved colours such as red, black and white which interoperate that these colours represent hip hop so I used this as template for my magazine. My student mag was pretty much random colours selected that worked well together as I stated earlier.

Contents page

These different contents pages obviously shows how my skills with InDesign have improved a lot as my hip hop magazines contents page is basically just a very big improvement from my stud mag contents page. My student mag contents page is simple, basic and easily read my hip hop magazine also follows this but I’ve added elements related to my target audience and musical genre. I’ve made certain things like the title ’the contents’ and headers bigger and bolder simply to make them more visible. I kept the simple and basic theme but also change the way the use of images our teacher stated we needed more than one picture on our contents page, so I used three different pictures one containing a different location and merged them all into one picture but added a little creativity to it which turned out very well.

Whilst editing my magazine l learned and developed many skills in Photoshop some of which was how to fix any minor errors, use tools such as brush and blur to ease facial issue like spot. Or blackheads
During my experience with InDesign I learned how to how to line up everything up perfectly with the ruler tool. This made my work on my contents page much easier.

Blogger allowed me to upload my work and keep track. This was also an access point for my teachers and piers to view and asses my work.
PowerPoint helped me to present and pitch my ideas for my magazine; I also used PowerPoint to draw my first draft of my magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I used a various amount of methods to attract/address my target audience one of which would be by adding relevant artists by that meaning artists who are currently in the spot light i.e. most popular this would attract the audience because its what they would want to see, involving artist who are most popular at this moment in time would show that my up to date and most recent resulting in more readers because they would want the latest news on their favourite artist/musician.

Another way I attempted to attract /address my audience was through the use of colours. I researched a number of magazines and the majority contained the colours red, black and white

All three magazine above are the most popular within this genre and they all contain red, black and white which interprets that these colours represent hip hop so I also followed this colour scheme simply to send the message across that my magazine was all about hip hop.  Again IPC was also I great way to attract my audience because its was something different (unique selling point) different heads would be turned towards my magazine due to it being from a different place other users of other product from the same publisher could take interest because of the relationship they have already established with the brand .

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience for my music magazine would be people like me, young people who live average life aged 16 – 25 and have a great passion for music this was the best age range for me simply because I was within that age range so it made my work much more easier as I could look at things from my point of view I was the target audience.
I also priced my media product cheap so it was economically accessible to all social classes.  I didn’t think it was wise to have my magazine remain stereotypical and have my magazine aimed at males only so I made my target audience aimed at both male and female which would which would attract my audience more since it contains something relevant to both males and females.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think IPC would be the choice to publish my media product. IPC is a British publishing company which have more than 60iconic media brands and have over 25 million global users every month. I thought this was the best choice to publish my media product because they simply have nothing like it. IPC currently publish magazines based on the rock/heavy metal genre i.e. NME and uncut both of these products are well known within the media industry.

The IPC brand also doesn’t have anything on the market to do with hip hop which is where my product comes in. having IPC would be a big step for both my media product and the company rather than having other publishers like Harris publications which already have xxl magazine on the market it would just make my media product ‘just’ another magazine where as having IPC publish would draw attention simply because its something new.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The social group my media product was aimed was young people aged 16-25 who are into Hip Hop/R’n’B. the majority of my target audience would obviously be dominated by black people simply because hip hop is an industry dominated by African Americans i.e. black people.

One way in which my media product represents my target social group is through the models/ artists. I chose my models to be black females
